On the Trail. Depending on how I count it, we did 14 or 15 hikes (we hiked down Cleetwood Cove, took the boat to Wizard Island and hike around there, then the boat tour of the lake, and final hiked back up from Cleetwood Cove, so is each way along Cleetwood Cove a hike, or just combine them…not that it really matters?) We also hiked Garfield Peak twice during our stay at Crater Lake. In total, we logged 38 miles on the trails. The hikes are linked to the Ramblr.com tracks (the Wizard Island link includes the hike down to Cleetwood Cove as well as the boat ride to and from the island).

Critter List. This was a fantastic trip for animal watching. I think that we got a long list in part due to the wide variety of habitats that we toured, everything from the coast to high elevations. We saw everything from mega fauna down to bugs and we saw critters everywhere along our route. The list below records the animals that we were able to identify to a reasonable degree of certainty, with just a couple of exceptions to capture a general critter type. There were many bird sightings that we could not positively ID, such as a few hawks that we saw during our drives between points as well as lot of gone birds on the trails. There were also several butterflies that just would not sit still for a portrait so I was unable to figure out exactly what they were. But we still had over 70 animals that we did identify (more or less), including nearly 50 birds, of which ten were new to our “life list.” Not a bad tally. Note that new critters added to our list are underlined in the list below.
