Wraith Falls: Short, easy walk with nice views all along the trail.
Hiked on Saturday, July 19, 2014; reviewed November 28, 2014 See this review on Trip Advisor or the hike details on EveryTrail.
My wife and I made this short walk on a July morning as we were making our way from Mammoth to Roosevelt. The trailhead is just a few miles east of Mammoth, on the south side of the Grand Loop Road. Note that there are restroom facilities at the picnic ground just a few hundred yards west of the Wraith Falls parking lot.
This is a short, easy walk, about a mile round-trip. We saw several small critters including the ever present Uinta ground squirrels and a Northern Flicker. Plus there was a lot of digging along the trail. Badgers perhaps? The falls were pretty, but this was the wrong time of day for photos as we were looking right into the sun which was just peaking over the crest of the falls (we were at the falls about 9:15 in the morning). Even though this was a short hike, it was worthwhile as the views from the trail of the rolling prairie terrain were very nice under the mid morning sun. When we visited, the wildflowers were out in full force as well.
The round-trip hike is just under a mile and takes less than 30 minutes, depending on how much time you spend enjoying the scenery. The trail is easy and mostly flat, except for the last section that goes up the viewing platform for the falls. Part of the trail is on boardwalk, which makes for an easy walk. This is not a must do hike, but if you are not in a rush then spend the time and enjoy the views.
